Vipers Sports Club came out all guns blazing on Tuesday afternoon when they registered a 4-2 away victory against Proline FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at Lugogo.

Striker Fahad Bayo and midfielder Denis Mwemezi each notched a brace while Diego Hamis Kizza and Hakim Kiwanuka scored for the home side.

Proline started brightly and went ahead after just eight minutes, striker Diego Kiiza pounced on a loose ball in the box to blast past a helpless Derrick Ochan to make it 1-0.

But three minutes later, former Proline player Fahad Bayo levelled matters sending the visiting fans into wild cheers.

Vipers weren’t done yet, Mwemezi through the right flank reacted fastest to head home after Proline goalkeeper Hassan Matovu failed to react to a long ball into the box giving the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Mwemeze then clinched his brace with a neat finish in the box to the far right in the 20th minute, from then, it looked like damage control from Proline for the rest of the first period.

After the break, Vipers maintained the tempo creating wave after wave of attacks with Proline central defender Ibrahim Sendi penalized for a tag on Mwemeze inside the area 12 minutes into the second period.

Fahad Bayo stepped up and coolly slotted home his second on the day to make it 4-1, and take his tally for the season to 11.

Hakim Kiwanuka got Proline’s second with five minutes to go but it was too little too late for a comeback.

Vipers head coach Edward Golola quickly distanced talk of the title, insisting that it is a game at a time, especially after their lead at the summit now lies at seven points after second placed KCCA lost to Bright Stars in their game.

“It’s a great result, Proline was decent but we don’t want to be carried away, the boys know we are taking it a game at a time and that’s how it shall remain,” Golola said during the post-match press conference.

Vipers now go seven points clear of rivals KCCA FC who lost to Bright Stars away at Kavumba. Vipers host SC Villa at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Friday.
