Following their quarter-final loss to Kyambogo University last week, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has petitioned the University Football League, over the former’s alleged use of an ineligible player.

MUBS beat Kyambogo 2-1 in the first leg played at Kyambogo and was on course for another victory in the second leg, only for Laker Joram’s 92nd-minute goal that gave Kyambogo a 2-1 victory – their first ever against MUBS – and leveling the tie at 3-3 on aggregate sending it to penalties.

Kyambogo’s custodian Andrew Ahebwomugisha was the hero, saving three penalties to see his team win the shootout 4-1.

However, MUBS alleges that the said Ahebwomugisha was an impersonator and is not a student.

According to sources, the MUBS Sports Tutor brought up the matter of Ahebwomugisha’s identity before the start of the game, but their opponents insisted on using the player, who turned out to be key to their win.

When contacted on the matter, University Football League Organising Committee Chairman, Vincent Kisenyi said he could not comment, as the matter is before the Disciplinary Committee.

“I’m sorry I cannot say much on this. The matter is before the Disciplinary Committee and we await their decision,” Kisenyi said.

Kyambogo were drawn against St. Lawrence University in the semi-final draws and their first leg is scheduled for Tuesday, October 25 at Kavule, Masaka Road.
