Bright Stars appoint Paul Kiwanuka head coach

By Shafic Kiyaga

Struggling Uganda Premier League side Bright Stars FC has appointed Paul Kiwanuka as their new head coach for the rest of the season.

Kiwanuka replaces Muhamad Kisekka who joined the club at the start of the season. According to the club, Kisekka will take up the role of head of scouting and Youth development.

Kisekka was given the task of turning around the club’s style of play, from majorly combative and defensive to a more expansive and free-flowing style.

He has been able to turn around the style, but the results have been hard to come by under his reign. Kiseka has guided the club to just one victory in the 14 games he has been in charge of the club.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Kiwanuka Paul as the new head coach of the club until the end of the current season,” Read a statement from the club.

“Mr. Kiwanuka replacing Mr. Muhammad Kisekka who will be deployed by the club in another capacity as the head of scouting and youth development.” The statement continued.

Kiwanuka previously worked as an assistant to former head coach Fred Kajoba. The pair guided the club to the Uganda Cup finals where they lost out to Proline FC on penalties.

Kajoba and Kiwanuka were subsequently relieved of their duties as the club sought a new path. However, as they languish below the red zone, can he help guide them to safety.

Meanwhile the technical team that worked under Kisekka will be maintained, with Samuel Mugerwa staying on as an assistant coach.

Kiwanuka’s first task will be against fellow relegation strugglers Police FC at the Bombo Barracks grounds today afternoon.
