The Uganda women’s national football team head coach Faridah Bulega is assured that the Crested Cranes will surpass Ethiopia and qualify to the next round despite a loss.
The Ugandan side lost 3-2 to Ethiopia in the CAF Africa Qualifiers Women’s Tournament Olympics Games Tokyo 2020 1st leg fixture, on Wednesday evening in Addis Ababa.
“We only need one goal at home to qualify, we shall capitalize on the two away goals we scored, we are going to improve our striking line,” Bulega said after her side’s loss.
“The game was tough, Ethiopia was a good side but the players played with confidence and teamwork.”
“We came to play safe, we tried our level best, fortunately, we got two away goals which means we shall need only one goal at home,” she added.
The home team thought they sealed it as they led the game 3-0 through Aisha Namukisa’s own goal, Loza Abera and Serkaddis Guta’s strikes.
However, the Crested Cranes never gave up, they forced an error that led to Tarikuwa Debiso’s own goal before Hasifah Nassuna made it 3-2.
Both sides will meet again for the return leg on Saturday, April 6th at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo where Crested Cranes is looking for one goal to qualify.
The winner between the two sides will meet Cameroon in yet another double legged confrontation, there will be three more rounds to be played before the overall representatives are known.
