Defending Champions, Bulemeezi came from behind to claim a point in a 1-1 draw against Butambala in the Airtel Masaza 2020 Cup opener.
Sharif Nsereko scored for beauty for Butambala in the first stanza while Benardo Kateregga levelled matters for Bulemeezi.
Moses Mutebi found the first glory chance of the game in the 21st minute as he dived to put his head on a daring cross from the left flank but his effort missed the target by inches.
In the 23rd minute, Nsereko scored a beauty from Musa Jjaggwe’s pass to put Butambala in the driving sit.
Butambala hand a chance to find the second goal of the day after Athanas Mutaawe’s hard cross caused a defensive scuffle but the rebound from Nsereko hit the woodwork.
At the stroke of the first half, Butambala’s corner kick was poorly collected by Bulemeezi’s custodian Ibra Banalya but Douglaus Kizza was on hand to clear it off the line.
Bulemeezi came in high gear after the break as they went in search of an equaliser and their period of possession nearly paid off but Sulaiman Ssesazi’s freekick from the edge of the box was saved by goalkeeper Fahad Emuran.
In the 76th minute, forward Bernado Kateregga pulled one back for the defending champions after a scuffle at the goal-line.
At the final whistle, both sides could not be separated as they picked up a point from the Butikiro group opener.
The competition inside the bubble continues tomorrow with Ssingo playing Buruuli at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.
As tradition, the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi graced the opening ceremony of the tournament and flagged off the tournament’s 12th edition which will be played behind closed doors and in a bubble due to the coronavirus pandemic.
