Busoga United have officially resumed training today (Monday, September 6th) as they intensify preparations to amend last season’s disintegration that saw them gravely fight to shrug off relegation advances.

The team participated in a light session that started at 9 am EAT at Kakindu Stadium in Jinja.

This follows an eventful couple of weeks at the club that have seen young talent take their opportunity and get to share the communal cake through trials.

The very final list of players that have cut the grade is yet to be released, but for the few that impressed through trials, an addition to the senior team was confirmed in the morning’s single session.

The Jinja side experienced a rollercoaster of a season most recently, winning only six times, drawing eight and worryingly losing a record twelve games in the course of the 2020/2021 UPL season.

The outcome was an uncharacteristic thirteenth finish in the league, something that many fans and wellwishers alike attributed to the level of disorganization in administration.

They honestly required a premature end to the season, courtesy of the siege in Covid-19 cases that forced the government’s hand, thereby subjected the country to an unprecedented second lockdown for them to seize to be perpetual relegation candidates.

Their dismal display saw them finish in 13th position on the 16-team UPL log, just one point above the redline, having accumulated an average of just a point in each of their 26 league games.

The self-proclaimed pride of Jinja only performed better than Kyetume (23 points) plus the then debutants MYDA (14 points) and Kitara (13 points) whose relegation punishment was sealed on the crowning day of the season.

Busoga United, with a -24 goal difference registered the third-worst defensive record in the league, only managing to score 21 times, but conceding 44 in return.

This particularly undesirable performance was only bettered by relegated MYDA and Kitara who both conceded 45 more times than they scored respectively.
