The Federation of Uganda Football Associations has confirmed that Morley Byekwaso will continue in his capacity as the head coach of the Uganda U20 team.
Byekwaso who handled the team on an interim basis during the 2019 CECAFA U20 tournament held in Uganda, has been appointed on a six-month contract together with his entire technical team.
“FUFA has appointed the following technical personnel of two the National Junior Teams-U17 and U20 men for a period of six (6) months.”
“The appointments start with immediate effect as FUFA has already entered the two teams for the AFCON Zonal Qualifiers for CECAFA Region,” FUFA said in a statement.
The KCCA assistant coach will be assisted by former Uganda Cranes defender Simeon Masaba who will also double as the team’s fitness coach.
URA goalkeeping coach Stephen Billy Kiggundu will handle goalkeeping duties while Lule Micheal will be the team’s physio.
In the same vein, Hamzah Lutalo has been appointed as the U17 (Cubs) national team head coach.
Lutalo replaces Ghanaian Kwesi Paa Fabin who left the role in March 2019.
Lutalo worked as the second assistant under Kwesi Fabin during the 2017 U17 Africa Cup of Nations final tournament held in Tanzania.
Lutalo who is also URA FC assistant coach will work together with Mbarara City head coach Brian Ssenyondo as the first assistant and BUL FC head coach Arthur Kyesimira as the fitness coach.
Kiberu Mubarak continues in his role as goalkeeping coach on the team. Kabatalindwa Mable has been appointed as the team’s physio.
Both the Hippos and Cubs have been entered into their respective Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers which will be held in Mauritania (U20) and Morocco (U17).
The teams will seek to qualify for the tournament via the CECAFA (Central East Zone Qualifiers).
The Uganda U20 was drawn in group B alongside Burundi, Eritrea and South Sudan.
The Regional Qualifiers tournament will be held in Tanzania from 22nd November to 6th December 2020.
The U17 side will take on Ethiopia and Kenya in Group B at a tournament to be hosted by Rwanda from 13th to 28th December 2020.
Uganda is the defending champion of the CECAFA U17 tournament after defeated Ethiopia 3-1 in the final in 2018 in Tanzania to storm the 2019 U17 AFCON tournament.
