KCCA FC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Anisha Muhoozi has disclosed that the club was aware of the CAF guidelines that resulted in the cancellation of their game against Rwandese side AS Kigali.

Africa’s football governing body was forced to cancel the CAF Confederations Cup qualifier between KCCA and AS Kigali handing a 2-0 victory to Kigali after the former failed to raise the required number of players following multiple COVID 19 positive cases.

According to Muhoozi, the club was aware of all the guidelines but they wanted to try out their luck but the fate was against them.

“These guidelines were shared ahead of time and we were aware of them and that is why even when we had 15 players, we still proceeded and travelled,” Muhoozi said after the cancellation of the game.

“We didn’t want to lose the game, the guidelines are very clear that in the event you don’t have 15 players, you automatically lose the tie.”

“We didn’t want to just go ahead and conceded a loss without giving ourselves a trying chance which is what we did but unfortunately, fate had its own plans,” Muhoozi said.

However, Muhoozi added that they picked positive lessons from this scenario going forward with the main issue being upscaling their COVID 19 measures.

“But we pick the positives from this, we have learnt a lot and as a club we are going to go back and rework our COVID 19 measures that we had in place. Maybe this calls for us to upscale what we have been doing,” she noted.

KCCA’s main target is now overturning the deficit when the two sides meet in the second leg at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on January 6.

KCCA had travelled with a depleted squad for the first leg game after eight of their players plus head coach Mike Mutebi tested positive for the coronavirus on Friday.
