Ugandans Khalid Aucho, Steven Mukwala, Taddeo Lwanga and Charles Lukwago were on different ends of results in the Preliminary round of the CAF Champions League qualifiers.
Aucho’s Young Africans SC advanced to the next level of qualification while Lwanga’s AS Arta, Mukwala’s Asante Kotoko and Lukwago’s St. George were eliminated.
Yanga entered the first round of the qualifiers in style courtesy of a 9-0 aggregate victory over South Sudan side Zalan FC.
The first leg in South Sudan a week ago ended 4-0 in favour of the visitors before the Tanzanian outfit easily completed the task 5-0 in their own backyard on Saturday.
On the other hand, Kotoko was dumped out by underdogs Kadiogo FC from Burkina Faso 3-1 on penalty shootouts.
Mukwala’s paymasters won the first leg 1-0 in Burkina Faso last week before losing by the same scoreline in Ghana on Sunday.
The porcupine warriors will now concentrate on defending their Ghana Premier League crown.
Meanwhile, Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Lukwago’s side George could not go beyond the preliminary round of the qualifiers after they were eliminated by Sudan outfit Al Hilal Omdurman.
St George won the first leg 2-1 a week ago in Ethiopia but lost the second leg 1-0 to Al Hilal on Sunday in Sudan as the latter progressed on away goals rule after a 2-2 draw.
In addition, Uganda Cranes midfielder Lwanga and his new side Arta were ejected by Erick Kambale’s Al Merriekh 2-1 on aggregate.
Aucho and his side Yanga will now face Sudan outfit Al Hilal in the next stage of the qualification campaign.
