Following his failure to travel with Express FC to Sudan on Wednesday morning, veteran coach Simon Peter Kirumira has arrived at the Red Eagles camp in Khartoum this morning Thursday, September 16, Express FC have confirmed.

The former Maroons head coach was unable to travel with the team on Wednesday because his passport had reportedly expired and that the time period available wasn’t enough for a renewal.

Information from the Express camo in Khartoum indicate that everything was sorted perfectly and that Kirumira was ready to join the camp in Sudan.

The ‘CAF A’ licensed coach was sought out by the Red Eagles to play a ceremonial managerial role during their engagements in this year’s CAF Champions League campaign.

This was to remedy the imperfections that came with their head coach Wasswa Bbosa and his ineligibility due to lack of requirements. He is a ‘CAF B’ licensed coach and therefore does not qualify to stand on the touchline in that capacity.

Although Bbosa made the trip to Sudan, it will be Kirumira and the club’s assistant coach James Odoch that will take charge of what promises to be a mouthwatering encounter in the continent’s most prestigious club football tournament.

Kirumira, who has formerly been with Sadolin Paint FC in the capacity of head coach will continue serving in that role in the event that the Wankulukuku outfit progress to the next round.

There is however a contradiction on when and where the game will be played with information coming in from Sudan indicating that there could be a change in dates and venue.

Express FC also confirmed that the game will be played at Shikan Castle stadium in El Obedi on Sunday and not Al-Hilal Stadium in Khartoum on Friday as earlier communicated.

It should be noted that this proposed change in venue comes after Al-Merreikh’s request to use the Al-Hilal Stadium in Khartoum was dismissed according to reports close to the club.

The reigning Uganda Premier League champions hold the advantage from the first leg thanks to a 2-1 victory last week. Goals from talisman Eric Kambale and Martin Kizza did the trick.

The two-legged tie winner will face the victor between Equatorial Guinea’s Akonangui FC and Zambia’s Zanaco FC in the second round.
