Denis Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Joseph Ochaya’s TP Mazembe were both knocked out of the prestigious 2018/2019 Total CAF Champions League at the semi final stage.
Both sides played out to goalless draws on Saturday in South Africa against Waydad Casablanca and DR Congo against Esperance respectively.
Sundowns who have scored 17 goals in the competition this season failed to score the one important goal at a filled to capacity Lucas Masterpieces Moripe stadium as Wydad dished out defensive football to advance 2-1 on aggregate.
Wydad, 2017 winners will now tussle it out with holders Esperance who also frustrated TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi to advance 1-0 on aggregate having won the first leg by that margin.
Pitso Mosimane’s charges will now turn their guns towards the league title with Orlando Pirates breathing down their necks.
The sea robbers however are a point ahead after playing out a 2-2 draw with Cape Town City on Saturday.
Sundowns return to action on Tuesday against Golden Arrows, it will be their 47th match in all competitions this season.
A win for Onyango and Pitso will take them one point above Pirates with one round of matches to go.
