CAF CL: Six to miss Vipers trip after returning positive COVID-19 results

The situation has gone from bad to worse for Vipers SC as they are set to be without six of their players for the CAF Champions League tie with Al-Hilal due to COVID-19.

The Venoms will visit Al-Hilal in Sudan for the second leg of the preliminary round on Sunday, December 6.

However, their key players including captain Halid Lwaliwa, Abdul Karim Watambala, Abraham Ndugwa, Geoffrey Wasswa, Milton Kariisa and Livingstone Mulondo will not travel with the team after testing positive for COVID-19 in the tests carried out today.

Lwaliwa, Watambala and Wasswa played the entire 90 minutes in the first leg at the St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende last Saturday.

Nduggwa started the game but was withdrawn midway through the second half, while Kariisa was withdrawn in first half added time after a laboured performance.

The Fred Kajoba coached side are aiming for atleast a 2-0 win in Sunday’s game if they are to make it to the next round after losing 1-0 in the first leg at home.

The first leg result together with the COVID-19 disruption leaves the Venoms chances of progression hanging on a thread.

Their ultimate target this season was to make it to the group stage of Champions League but all odds seems to be stuck against them now.
