Vipers SC head coach Roberto Oliveira alias Robertinho has indicated the club has one sole objective in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League, and it’s to hit the knockout stages at their first asking.
The Kitende side were placed in Group C alongside Tanzania’s Simba SC, Morocco’s Raja Casablanca, and Horoya Athletic of Guinea in the draws held in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.
“We have seen our opponents, a good draw with big teams but Vipers is a big club too,” the tactician spoke to the club media.
“I’ll speak to my group to respect the opponents but the opponents have to respect Vipers too. I believe so much in the quality of my players.”
“I’ll prepare my team thoroughly well for the champions league when the time is right. Right now we’re playing the league and we have to take one step at a time,” the Brazilian added.
“Our objective is one and clear, we have to qualify (to the knockout stages), I love the big matches.”
To make their first-ever group stages, they dumped five-time winners TP Mazembe in the final preliminary round via a penalty shootout victory.
That was after they had eliminated Central African Republic side, Olympic Real De Bangui in a 4-0 aggregate victory.
