Vipers SC rock-solid midfielder, Siraje Ssentamu has expressed confidence that his team will hit huge strides in the 2022 CAF Champions League.
The Venoms will take on Olympic Real de Bangui in the competition’s preliminary round, with the first leg set for Saturday in Congo Brazaville.
“We are ready and set for the Champions League,” started Ssentamu in an interview with Football256.
The Kitende outfit has never made it to the group stages of the prestigious competition, but, the colossus midfielder feels it’s just about time to grace the distinguished occasion.
“We have tried quite a number of times without making it to the group stages, but it’s all about not stopping, and trying again,” added the Uganda Cranes star.
“This time round though, we are confident of making that step, with the kind of preparations we have had.”
“We have played a number of buildup matches, including international friendlies, and have performed quite well,” noted a buoyant Ssentamu.
Vipers has made nine signings including Abubakar Lawal, Alfred Macumu Mudekereza, Olivier Osomba, Isa Mubiru, Ashraf Mandela, Marvin Joseph Youngman, Murushid Juuko, Abdu Lumala and Cromwell Rwothomio.
Ssentamu is optimistic the additions will make a strong impact in their continental run: “We have made great signings, with an experienced lot and these I believe, will help us get a distance on the continent.”
The return leg with Bangui will take center stage at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday, September 17.
The victor on aggregate is in line to take on Democratic Republic of Congo kingpin, TP Mazembe in the First Round.
