The Confederations of African Football has announced the new dates for the semi-finals and final matches of both the 2019/20 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
A CAF Executive Committee meeting that sat on Thursday via video conference confirmed that both tournament finals will be played between October and November 2020.
The premier inter-club continental competitions were set to be concluded in September and October, with the Champions League final scheduled for October 3, while the Confederation Cup final was due September 22.
However, health concerns due to the recent rise in coronavirus cases especially in Morocco where the Confederations Cup semi-final and final plus the first leg of the Champions League were to be played.
The fact that four of the eight teams still in contention were from Morocco also cast a huge doubt over the future of both competitions.
On Wednesday, Egyptian clubs Zamalek and Pyramids aired their concerns over the postponement of the competitions calling on CAF to choose a new venue rather than actually postponing the games but CAF has not heeded to their call.
“As a result of a request from the Royal Morocco Football Federation (FRMF) in view of the latest health developments in Morocco and on the recommendation of the CAF Interclub Competitions Organizing Committee, the remaining matches of the Champions League and the Confederation Cup have been postponed.”
“The decision automatically affected the calendar for the 2020/2021 season, which has been adjusted accordingly,” CAF said in a statement.
CAF has now confirmed that the semi finals of the Champions League will be played between October 17-23, with the first leg scheduled for October 17 and 18.
Meanwhile the return legs will be played on October 23 and 24, with the final due November 6, 2020.
Additionally, the semi-finals of the Confederation Cup which will be played over a single leg will be played on October 19 and 20, with the final taking place five days later on October 25.
Raja Casablanca battle Zamalek in the Champions League semi-finals and Al Ahly face Wydad Casablanca in the second semi-final fixture.
For the Confederation Cup, Uganda Cranes forward Abdul Lumala’s Pyramids have a date with Guinea’s Horoya, while Morocco’s RS Berkane lock horns with league rivals Hassania Agadir.
