Lady Doves head coach Fred Musiime was a happy and excited man after his charges claimed a 5-0 win past FAD FC, noting that the victory provides the right momentum for the team in the CAF Women Champions League zonal qualifiers.
The 2020/21 FUFA Women Super League champions registered a well-deserved win against Djibout’s side at Nyoyo Stadium, Nairobi on Saturday afternoon.
“The win gives us momentum,” Musiime told media shortly after the game before adding; “Starting with such a big win gives us energy, confidence and determination.”
Lady Doves took the lead in the 16th minute through Riticia Nabosa’s header from Birungi Adrine’s assist, with Fazila Ikwaput making it two by the end of the first stanza.
Musiime’s charges were the better side throughout the game, exhibiting better fitness levels than the Djibouti side that struggled to push the ball out of their half.
Norah Alupo scored Lady Doves’ third goal, moment before FAD’s defender Hibo Abdu was forced into scoring into her net midway through the second half.
Fazila sealed the emphatic victory with a fifth goal for the Ugandan side with five minutes to play.
“I thank God for giving us the win. We are now going to watch our opponent and see how we face them most appropriately,” Musiime said.
“I believe we can still improve on our fitness levels. It is always hard to do it all in the opening game, but I believe we shall keep improving and getting better as games go on,” he concluded.
Meanhwile, Ikwaput whose two goals put her at the top of the scorer’s chat was disappointed with the amount of chances she failed to utilise.
“Having two goals is not bad, but it is below the target I had set in today’s game. I missed several chances, but that is what God has given me, and I will build from it.”
Speaking about the performance of the team, she said: “The performance was not bad. We came in the game yarning to score two goals but ended up getting, even more, thanks be to God.”
“I came to take the golden boat and take my team to its required destination,” she concluded.
Lady Doves are set to play against Simba Queens on Tuesday, August 31 before they face Burundi side PVP.
