Ugandan coach Charles Ayiekoh ‘Mbuzi’ has laid his minimum aspirations to leading Simba Queens FC to the CAF Women’s Champions League semi-finals at first asking.
Barely a month ago, the former She Corporate head coach was appointed to the Queens’ top seat with huge continental expectations.
“I’m very confident we’re going to compete and perform, not just to participate and, the target is to at least reach the semi-finals,” Ayiekoh revealed to Football256.
They head to Morocco this week for the tournament that will kickstart on October 30- November 13, 2022.
The Queens are pitted in Group A along with Morocco’s Asfar FC, Green Buffaloes from Zambia, and Liberia’s Determine Girls, and Ayiekoh feels his side is fully prepared.
“After the CECAFA, camp was disbanded as the League is yet to start, so I found a squad lacking in fitness but, we have tried to put them back to the required levels.”
“We have played a couple of friendlies where we won three and drew one but all this was to put the players in a game situation,” he added.
“The team is well based also on the quality of players, several foreigners who are talented, six who are with the U-17 in India and will join us in Morocco, so I’m very confident the team will perform.”
The top two from each of the two groups will play in the semi-finals on November 09, while the final will take center stage four days later.
