BUL FC will play Egyptian side Future FC in the preliminary round of their maiden CAF Confederation Cup appearance.

While the 2022/23 Egyptian Premier League season is ongoing, the StarTimes Uganda Premier League is tentatively set to begin on September 30.

And before the SUPL season commences, BUL will have already known their fate in the Confederation Cup, something that is baffling BUL head coach Alex Isabirye.

“Future FC is a strong team and It is quite unfortunate we are still in preseason, and their league is running,” Isabirye said as quoted by the club website.“

“Their activeness gives them an edge given that it is a long while now since BUL last played any competitive game.”

Isabirye’s charges qualified for the Confederation Cup when they won the Uganda Cup at the expense of SUPL champions Vipers SC, who will be playing in the CAF Champions League.

Future who have just gained promotion to the EPL, qualified after winning the EFA League Cup.

“After winning the Uganda cup, we knew we would play some of the strongest teams on the continent,” Isabirye noted in his reaction to the draw.“

“There is no weak team in Confederation Cup, and football is football. We are preparing a strong team that will get good results.”

“And, we are trying as much as we can to put ourselves in the best conditions to win the tie.”

Their 3-1 victory over Vipers in Masindi in June is the last time BUL were involved in a competitive game while Future are active and fourth on the EPL log.

The Oil Manufacturers will host the first leg between September 9 and 11 before traveling to Egypt for the second leg between September 16 and 18.

The winner on aggregate two legs, will advance to the next stage of the qualifiers where they will face either Buffles du Borgou of Benin or Kallon FC of Sierra Leone in October.
