After earning promotion to the Uganda Premier League and also starting with a point, Kitara’s ultimate goal is mainly to stay up but who will they lean on?

Striker Brian Mayanja Muluuli inspired them to promotion when he scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory over Kiboga Young FC in the FUFA Big League promotional playoff final.

And as if that was not enough, he went ahead to score the club’s first goal in the UPL in his side’s 1-1 draw with Kyetume FC as they salvaged a point on their first game in the top flight.

Muluuli has established himself a unique figure at the club and he’s arguably their best player after the exit of orthodox midfielder Jamil Kisitu Nvule and forward George Ssenkaaba who left for Soltilo Bright Stars FC and Express FC respectively.

He is the right man for the Hoima based side to lean on with him capable carrying the club across the line should he maintain his foot on the gas pedal.

While speaking exclusively to Football256, the forward expressed his gratitude and revealed his seasonal targets.

“I am glad that it’s now written in the books of the club that I scored the promotional goal and also went ahead to score the club’s first goal in the UPL, that’s really exciting,” Muluuli said.

“Individually I am targeting scoring plenty of goals this season and finish amongst the top three leading goal scorers in the division.”

“And as far as the club is concerned with God by our side, we want to work so hard together with my teammates to ensure that we finish in the top five places,” he noted.

Mululi joined Kitara FC from Dove FC in the 2019/20 season and managed to score nine goals, hence finishing as the FUFA Big League top scorer, a performance that can power the club to greater if he can reach or better that performance.

With a point earned from their league opener against Kyetume at FUFA Technical Center on Saturday, Kitara occupy the sixth position on the 16-team UPL log.

Fellow newly promoted side UPDF FC who started the season on a high by thrashing Busoga United 3-0 are top of the league and are next on the card at the Kavumba Recreation Center on Wednesday.

Although this will be their first meeting in the top flight, the two have met before in the Big League in the Rwenzori Group, playing to a two-all draw at Kigaya playground in Hoima.

Games in Uganda’s top tier division resume Tuesday, December 8 and Wednesday 9 on matchday two of the 2020/21 season.
