By Clive Kyazze

Ahead of the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Club championship in Rwanda, KCCA FC touched down Butare district on Thursday morning to give a shot at a championship they last won in 1978.

KCCA trained for the first time at Huye training ground on later in the day and all players appeared to be in good shape ahead of the three weeks event starting Saturday 6th July – 21st July.

“The first training session was fantastic and everyone’s morale is high we are therefore ready to kick start the tournament,” KCCA midfielder Gift Ali told before adding.

“The atmosphere here has geared us up already, we won’t take any team lightly because we know what’s at stake for us.”

“To an individual level am looking forward to an injury-free season and I really want to help out my team in every aspect of the game,” he added.

After a hurtful performance at last season’s Champions League, Mike Mutebi’s charges won the Uganda Premier League winning the ticket to be at the regional championship and back to the continent.

Their involvement at this year’s Kagame Cup makes it a good build up tournament to teams like KCCA and Proline FC who will play at the continental level in the 2019 / 2020 Total CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup respectively.

“This tournament will give us positive ways of preparation for the CAF Champions League because it has strong teams, I am positive about us going past the group stages,” Ali further noted.

The Kasasiro boys will play all their Group B stage games at Huye Stadium in the Southern Province of Rwanda because it’s where group B games will be held and will kick off their campaign against Bandari FC of Kenya on Sunday 7th July.

Group B: Azam FC – Tanzania, Bandari FC – Kenya, KCCA FC – Uganda, Mukura FC – Rwanda
