Suspended head coach for the Harambee Stars, Francis Kimanzi has reaffirmed that his absence shall not affect the team’s performance, ahead of their second group B encounter against Sudan.

The two teams will meet in the lunchtime kickoff at the ongoing CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo on Tuesday.

CECAFA suspended Kimanzi following allegations of chasing a fourth official from Kenya’s dressingroom and forcefully delaying kickoff by ten minutes because three Tanzanian players didn’t have passports.

All this was before Harambee Stars’ tournament opener against Tanzania on Sunday, December 8th, 2019 at Lugogo, something Kimanzi has denied.

“I do not know what I did, because there is a team manager, I am on the technical side and I did what am supposed to do, warm the team up and manage the game and we won,” Kimanzi told football-256.com.

However, CECAFA secretary general, Nicholas Musonye had different thoughts, believing Kimanzi deserved a heavier punishment.

“He (Kimanzi) should thank his God if he has one because his conduct deserved more than a two match ban,” Musonye said on Monday.

“It is very unfortunate of a coach of Kimanzi’s status to do what he did and I want to say he should thank God because we wanted to chase him away,” Musonye added.

Speaking to the presser before the match against Tanzania, Kimanzi dismissed thoughts of camp distortion due to his absence, laying his belief in his technical team.

“I have a very experienced technical team, there is nothing that will change, the boys will have fun and we will win.”

“Some of my players will even be more stable on the pitch because of my absence and we shall win the game,” he added.

Kimanzi’s assistant coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno will take charge of Tuesday’s clash together with the last group game against Zanzibar
