After being named the club’s official captain at the end of the 2018/2019 season, the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Club championship is going to be Charles Lukwago’s first tournament as the KCCA FC group leader.
Like the leader he has always been without the armband, Lukwago seems to be ready to stamp with authority early enough with his comments going into the tournament.
“I’m sure we have no pressure amongst us, though it’s my first CECAFA tournament and most of the players on the team,” Lukwago told www.football-256.com before adding.
“The team has previously participated in this tournament, therefore, it leaves us under no pressure, our role is to go out there compete and put up a good performance.”
As a build-up to the tournament, KCCA FC defeated Proline FC 5-1 in a trial game at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Wednesday.
Mike Mutyaba, Allan Okello, Sadam Juma, Jackson Nunda and Herbert Achai scored for KCCA FC while Ivan Bogere netted for Proline.
“The friendly game against Proline FC was a good test, the opponents were really good, having won with a thrilling margin gives us the confidence and the courage to go out there in Rwanda and effectively compete,” he added.
Lukwago and company have played at the continental level for the Club and some for the National team, therefore, this year’s CECAFA tournament further prepares them for the 2019/2020 Total CAF Champions League.
With the absence of teams like Simba Sports Club and Young African Sports Club both from Tanzania, KCCA FC is one of the favourites together with defending champions Azam FC, Rwandan duo of APR and Rayon Sport to walk away with this years crown.
