After the climax of the group stage games in Group A and B, the 2022 CECAFA Women’s Championship has reached the last four.
In Group A, it’s hosts Uganda and Burundi that advanced while in Group B, Tanzania and Ethiopia went through.
Meanwhile, Rwanda and Djibouti could not go past the group stages in Group A whereas it is South Sudan and Zanzibar that got dumped out of Group B.
The four teams’ road to the semifinals
Uganda
The Crested Cranes won all their three group stage games; 2-0, 5-0, and 4-1 against Rwanda, Djibouti, and Burundi respectively, hence finishing top of Group A with nine points.
Burundi
The Swallows defeated Djibouti and Rwanda 3-0 and 2-1 respectively before they were thrashed 4-1 by Uganda and went through to the semifinals as the second-placed team in Group A with six points.
Tanzania
The Twiga Stars’ campaign started with a 2-0 win over South Sudan, they thereafter drew 2-2 with Ethiopia and concluded with a 12-0 mauling of Zanzibar in Group B.
Ethiopia
The Lucy demolished Zanzibar 5-0 in their opener, drew 2-2 with Tanzania on match day two, and a 4-0 victory over South Sudan was their final Group B game.
In Group B, both Tanzania and Ethiopia finished level on seven points but it is the former that topped the standings with a better goal difference than the latter.
The semifinals will take place on Thursday, June 9 with Uganda facing Ethiopia whilst Tanzania will lock horns with Burundi.
