As part of their preparation for the upcoming 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Uganda and Burundi are taking part in the 2022 CECAFA Women’s Championship.
The East Africa duo will represent the region at the WAFCON in Morocco come July and they have intensified their preparation.
At the ongoing CECAFA tournament in Njeru, it is all perfect so far for the hosts Uganda and Burundi.
Both Uganda and Burundi were pooled in the same Group A alongside Rwanda and Djibouti.
The Crested Cranes of Uganda won all their three games group games, scored 11 goals, and conceded one goal hence topping Group A.
Onto reaching the semifinals, George Lutalo’s charges drew goalless with Ethiopia in normal time but won the contest 1-0 in extra time.
Meanwhile, Burundi has only slipped against Uganda which defeated them while they won the other two games against Rwanda and Djibouti thus finishing as Group A runners-up.
The above ensured that the Swallows also advanced to the semifinals of the competition where they defeated Tanzania 2-1.
Uganda and Burundi will face off in the 2022 CECAFA Women’s Championship at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Saturday, June 11.
This final proves how worthy they both are as far as representing East Africa in the WAFCON is concerned.
