Burundi edged Rwanda 2-1 in their second game of the 2022 CECAFA Women’s Championship at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Friday to join Uganda in the semifinals.
Sandrine Niyonkuru bagged a brace for Burundi in the 13th and 75th minutes while Rwanda’s goal was scored by Zawadi Usanase in the 37th minute.
In the same Group A, Uganda had earlier demolished Djibouti 5-0 and it is positioned first on six points same as Burundi but after two games, the former has a better goal difference.
The above means that Rwanda and Djibouti who are winless so far, are out of contention for the semifinals.
When the action in Group A resumes on Sunday, June 5, Uganda will face Burundi in a fixture that will decide who tops the group while Rwanda and Djibouti will also go head to head on the same day.
There will be games on Saturday, June 4 in the other Group B with Ethiopia taking on Tanzania while South Sudan will play Zanzibar.
