Crested Cranes striker Fazila Ikwaput was brilliant throughout the 2022 CECAFA Women’s Championship and was been named the best player of the tournament.
The Lady Doves WFC forward scored in all the five games the Crested Cranes played in the eight-team competition.
In total, Ikwaput netted six goals, only one goal adrift of the eventually top scorer Clement Opa of Tanzania who managed seven goals.
She bagged a brace in the Crested Cranes’ 2-0 win over Rwanda which was her side’s opening game of the competition.
Ikwaput scored a goal in each of Uganda’s 5-0 and 4-1 victories over Djibouti and Burundi in the second and third group stage games respectively.
In the semifinals, the forward scored the only goal of the game in the 114th minute as the Cranes needed extra time to edge Ethiopia 1-0.
She had a goal for the fifth game in a row when netted Uganda’s second goal in a 3-1 victory over Burundi in the final for her side to win the CECAFA trophy for the first time in history.
Meanwhile, Ikwaput’s compatriot Daisy Nakasiro walked away with the golden glove having kept three clean sheets against Rwanda, Djibouti, and Ethiopia.
Nakasiro conceded only twice against Burundi both in the group stages and final.
On the other hand, Tanzania scooped two awards that are the golden boot won by Opa and the Fair Play Award.
