The Uganda U17 national team head coach Hamza Lutalo’s main target remains winning the CECAFA U17 championship.
The Uganda Cubs kicked off the tournament with a 5-0 win against Kenya on Wednesday before a 3-0 win against Ethiopia on Friday to top group A with six points.
On-form striker Oscar Mawa scored twice before midfielder Ivan Irinimbabazi added the other as Uganda Cubs made the semis in style.
Mawa broke the deadlock in the 17th minute with a brilliant goal before Irinimbabazi made it 2-0 with 10 minutes to the halftime break.
Mawa made it three with another strike after 62 minutes to complete his brace in the game which took his tally to five goals in this tournament.
Uganda Cubs will face Djibouti and according to Lutalo, they are preparing for the game as they target title.
“We played a very good game although we scored few goals due to the heavy downpour. Our opponents came to defend because they wanted to make it to semis,” Lutalo said before adding.
“We are now preparing for Djibouti; the good thing is that their playing style is the same as that of Ethiopia.”
“I promise our fans that we shall overcome Djibouti and then go on to win the title,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ethiopia will face off with Tanzania in the other semi-final tie on Sunday December 20, at theUmuganda Stadium in Rubavu, Rwanda.
The two finalists at this year’s championship will qualify for the AFCON finals in 2021 that will be hosted in Morocco.
