The Uganda U17 national team completed their CECAFA U17 championship title defence after defeating Tanzania in the final on Tuesday afternoon.
The Uganda Cubs defeated neighbours Tanzania 3-1 at the Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu, Rwanda courtesy of Ivan Irinimbabazi, Ibrahim Juma and Travis Mutyaba’s strikes to complete their unbeaten run in the competition.
Irinimbabazi scored the opener in the 62nd minute with a powerful header from a well taken free kick by Vincent Mulema to put Uganda in the driving seat.
In the 80th minute, Mutyaba doubled Uganda’s lead with a second goal as the Hamza Lutalo coached side consolidated their lead.
However, eight minutes later, Tanzania pulled one back following an own goal by Ugandan defender Mulema.
In the 90th minute, Ibrahim Juma sealed Uganda’s victory with a third goal from a spot kick after Omar Hassan Yahya brought down Mutyaba inside the penalty area.
