The Uganda U17 national side (the Cubs) kicked off their CECAFA U17 title defence in style with a dominant 5-0 victory against rivals Kenya in group A of the tournament.
Oscar Mawa produced a spectacular performance on the day by scoring a hattrick at the Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu Rwanda on Wednesday afternoon.
Travis Mutyaba and Ronald Madoi were also on the score sheet in the game.
Mawa scored Uganda’s first goal in the seventh minute from a header from Vincent Mulema’s well-laid cross to put the Cubs in the driving seat.
Uganda continued to dominate play with Hassan Mubiru and Ibrahim Juma testing the Kenyan goalkeeper Alvin Lwangu who was equal to the task.
Mawa doubled the lead for Uganda in the 50th minute with yet another fantastic finish and four minutes later, Mawa completed his hattrick with a simple clinical finish.
In the 78th minute, the Cubs extended their lead with Mutyaba on hand to score a fourth before Madoi completed the routing with five minutes to play.
