Uganda U20 forward Ismail Mugulusi has called upon his teammates to remain focused despite achieving qualification for the U20 AFCON tournament.
The Hippos sealed qualification to the tournament scheduled for Mauritania in 2021 after convincingly defeating Kenya 3-1 in the Zonal qualifiers semi-finals at the Black Rhino Academy Sports Stadium in Karatu, Tanzania.
Kenneth Ssemakula scored the Hippos opening goal before Ivan Bogere took his tally in the tournament to four goals after bagging a brace.
According to Mugulusi, qualification for the AFCON U20 finals is part of the objective and that the team should stay focused if they are to go on and win the regional title.
“Am happy because we have made it to the finals,” Mugulusi said after the game before adding; “I encourage all my teammates to stay focused so that we can go on and win the title.”
“I thank God for enabling us reach this level, I also thank all the fans for the massive support towards us,” he stated.
Uganda will lock horns with hosts Tanzania – who eliminated South Sudan 1-0 in the other semi-final – in the CECAFA U20 Championship final on Wednesday, December 2.
This is Uganda’s first time in history to qualify for AFCON U-20 Championship.
