For the fifth edition in a row, the Uganda Cranes have one leg in the African Nations Championships (CHAN) final tournament, when they host fellow East African nation Burundi at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo, on Saturday.

The Cranes hold a three-goal advantage over their opponents tomorrow, thanks to goals from Vianney Sekajugo, Muzamir Mutyaba and defender Mustafa Kizza in Bujumbura, almost a month ago.

Whereas Muzamir Mutyaba will not be available for the second leg, as he is still recovering from an injury, the other two protagonists are well prepared and raring to go if and when called upon by the coaches.

According to Cranes assistant coach Abdallah Mubiru, who has handled the Cranes qualification campaign to this stage, the tie is far from decided and has warned his players against complacency because anything can happen.

“It’s not yet over for us, not until the 90 minutes are over. However, much we hold a three-goal advantage, anything can happen,” Mubiru told football-256.

“A three-goal advantage is comfortable enough, but in football anything can happen. Therefore, we shall have to manage and handle the game and do our job first we before we can actually think of celebrating.” He added.

The Cranes have been boosted by the return of versatile player Krizestom Ntambi who missed training yesterday after he was involved in a minor accident as he headed for training.

“He is back and has trained well with us. He was not affected that much and may have a role to play in the game tomorrow. All the other players are okay and are ready for the game tomorrow.” Mubiru continued.

The Crane shave been dominant over their opponents, losing just once in twelve games against them since 2007. Since 2011, the Cranes have conceded just once against Burundi, in a 2-1 win over them in 2017.
