The Taifa Stars of Tanzania gave their 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) dream a lift with a 1-0 win over the Brave Warriors of Namibia on Saturday evening at the Stade Omnisports, Limbe, Cameroon.

The Group D encounter saw the trio of referee Mimisen Agatha Iyorhe (Nigeria), Lidya Tafese Abebe (Ethiopia), and Bernadettar Asimenye Kwimbira (Malawi) writing their names in history by becoming the first all-female match officiating team at a game in a CAF senior men’s tournament.

Ivan Kamberipa’s free kick in the 22nd minute was not well handled by Tanzania goalkeeper, Aishi Salum Manula, but the Namibians couldn’t capitalise on the goalie’s mistake.

In the 27th minute, Deus David Kaseke almost freed himself in the Namibia box but goalkeeper, Ndisiro Kamaijanda swiftly checked his surge.

Absalom Manjana Iimbondi’s free kick in the 49th minute was punched for a throw-in by Aishi Salum Manula.

In the 62nd minute, Ayubu Reuben Lyanga had his effort inside the Brave Warriors box tipped over the bar by Ndisiro Kamaijanda.

Azam FC’s Faridi Mussa Shah scored the breakthrough goal for the Taifa Stars in the 66th minute when he benefitted from Namibians failure to clear a cross in their area.

The game was momentarily delayed in the 72nd minute when one of the floodlights went off and had to resume thereafter. Namibia tried to equalise but Manula in goal for Tanzania stood firm.

Tanzania is in position to qualify for the quarter-final after moving to third position in Group D with three points, one point behind joint group leaders Guinea and Zambia.
