Abdallah Mubiru is one of the few Ugandan coaches who walk the talk if he says he wants a team to play a particular brand of football he will try his level best to make sure it happens.
And this was evident when he summoned the 30 players to start preparations for the Total 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Somalia later this July.
Out of the 30, it’s hard to notice a player who is not comfortable on the ball, that’s his philosophy he loves confident players who are not scared of expressing themselves.
With the exception of midfielder Juma Balinya who joined Yanga SC in Tanzania, midfielders Paul Mucureezi and Michael Birungi together with defender Isaac Isinde who was ignored, Muburi has maintained the core that was at the COSAFA Championship in South Africa.
They are joined by the five locally based players who were with the Cranes team at the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Taddeo Lwanga, Timothy Awany, Allan Kyambadde, Patrick Kaddu and Taddeo Lwanga.
There new faces in goalkeeper Joel Mutakubya (Kyetume FC) and Yasin Mugabi who makes a return after some time together with defender Ashraf Mandela who recently left SC Villa for URA.
Midfielders Yusuf Ssozi (Paidha Black Angels), Samson Andrew Kigozi (Kakiri Town Council FC) are the other news faces joined Vipers Tom Masiko who is also making a return to the national team set up. Police FC striker Johnson Odong is the other.
Uganda Cranes will take on Somalia in a two-legged CHAN qualifier first round tie, they will visit Somalia in Mogadishu on July 27th before the second leg in Kampala on August 3rd 2019.
The winner of the tie will take on the winner between the two sides will take on either South Sudan or Burundi.
The training session of the team will start on Sunday, July 14th at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo, before a regional tour match against Kitara Region Select on Saturday, July 20th in Hoima.
