Uganda Cranes starlet AbdulKarim Watambala is confident that the team is ready to better their previous performance at the forthcoming African Nations Championships (CHAN) in Cameroon.

According to Watambala, the players are doing all it takes to get to their best as the coaches align them to rectify their weaknesses so that they can perform to the required standards.

“We are going to try our level best and perform better than the recent occasions,” Watambala told FUFA Media after the team’s morning training session at MTN Omondi Stadium on Thursday.

“The time we have spent in camp, we are enjoying the sessions and I must admit we are training pretty well with the guidance of our coaches,” he added.

Watambala continued: “ We are not going to Cameroon to just participate our goal is past that because as a team we are going to give it our best.”

“We are all positive towards what lies ahead and personally as a player I want to give my best by creating assists and scoring so that the team reaches its goal.”

Cranes Coach Jonathan McKinstry previously heaped praise on the young midfielder’s hunger and desire to learn and improve and it seems his mentality has paid off earning him a place on the Crane’s squad.

The 2021 CHAN tournament will be the Cranes’ fifth since its inaugural edition in 2009.

The Cranes though have not progressed beyond the group stages since their first appearance in the tournament since 2011.

Uganda was placed in group B alongside neighbours Rwanda, Togo and defending Champions Morocco.
