Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic believes that it is high time to start referring to him as a Ugandan local coach.
The Serbian who has been involved with Ugandan football since 2001 is christened ‘Sserunjogi’ by Ugandans.
“I have been in Africa for 21 years but spent nine years in Uganda,” Micho noted while giving an overview of Uganda Cranes’ performance at the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria at FUFA House in Mengo on Sunday.
“Even when I was not in Uganda, I continued to serve Ugandan football. I could say that it is very painful to be considered a foreign coach.”
“In my home country Serbian I am called a Ugandan and then in your country Uganda I am called a foreigner.”
“I believe that after the nine years I have spent in Uganda, I have a slight chance to be called a local coach,” he noted.
Micho started coaching in Uganda with SC Villa between 2001 and 2004. He had his first stint as Uganda Cranes’ head coach from 2013 to 2017.
On July 2021, he signed a three-year contract as the national team head coach for his second stint.
Qualifying Uganda for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017 after an absence of 38 years remains his greatest achievement as Uganda Cranes head coach.
