After playing against Sudan on Tuesday, Uganda will face Cameroon and Mali on Thursday and Sunday respectively in their other pre-tournament friendlies in Tunisia ahead of the 2022 African Nations Championship in Algeria.

Cranes’ head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic believes there is something ‘special’ that he is looking for in the matches against Cameroon and Mali.

“We are intentionally going to play against Cameroon and Mali to give us that sense of the ‘French influence of football’ which is with all the three teams in our CHAN group,” Micho told FUFA media.

“We could not have done it in any way better and I am optimistic about the approach that it will help us a lot when we start the tournament.”

“The players need minutes in their legs before we get into the real competition but the kind of teams we use to prepare as well matters a lot.”

“Come January 14th I know we shall be physically fit, technically effective, tactically competitive, mentally strong, and aware of what to expect,” the 53-year-old stated.

Ivory Coast, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo are the three teams Uganda is pooled with in Group B of the CHAN tournament and have got an element of ‘French football’ same as Cameroon and Mali.

The Serbian tactician also confirmed that the friendly game against Swiss side Lausanne FC has been canceled.

Uganda will be participating in their sixth CHAN competition and will begin its journey against DRC on January 14th.

In all their last five involvements, Uganda have never gone past the group stages of the competition.
