By Clive Kyazze

The first leg of the last qualifying round for the 2020 African Nations Championship between Uganda and Burundi is slated for September 20th, 2019 in Bujumbura.

Before that tie, the Abdallah Mubiru coached Uganda Cranes’ side has secured a friendly against neighbours Kenya on September 8th, 12 days to the tie against Burundi.

The chances of the locally-based players to play in that friendly are high although FUFA is yet to come out with an official stand or development about the friendly ahead of the international break.

The news of the friendly tie was confirmed by Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa on Wednesday at a function to unveil the new head coach of the Harambee Stars, Francis Kimanzi and his assistant Zedekiah Otieno.

“We have already two friendly matches for Harambee Stars one against Uganda Cranes on September 8 before another on October 10 against Libya,” Mwendwa was quoted by

“The two friendly matches are expected to be the first duties for our new coaches during the international break,” he added.

Since they were knocked out of the CHAN qualifiers 4-1 on penalties by Tanzania which also led to the sacking of Frenchman Sebastien Migne, Kenya will use the friendlies to prepare for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

Kenya are drawn in Group G alongside Egypt, Togo Comoros, they open up their campaign against the Pharaohs on November 11th, 2019 in Cairo.

For the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Uganda are drawn against Burkina Faso, Malawi and the winner between South Sudan and Seychelles in the preliminary round.
