As a way of preparing a competitive team for the April Total 2018 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, the FUFA technical team have named the Cubs’ (U17) team to present Uganda at the 2019 CECAFA U20 Championship.

The January 14th – 27th, 2018 competition that will be staged in Gulu and Njeru will help prepare the Cubs (who will play as the Hippos) for the AFCON finals in Tanzania according to FUFA Youth Development Officer Bashir Mutyaba.

“We have summoned the U17s because we are preparing them for the upcoming Total AFCON U17 tournament. We want to use it as a preparation contest for the boys to gain the competitive advantage,” Mutyaba told www.fufa.co.ug.

It’s not clear whether Peter Onen will be retained as the head coach of the Cubs after FUFA announced making changes aimed at re-structuring the management and technical set up of the Uganda National teams with instantaneous upshot.

National teams are now in two categories which are the junior teams and the National Senior sides, with the Cranes and U23 team under one management and the U20s and U17s under a different management. Magera is the latest addition to the national team setup.
