It looked like it was done and dusted, that Mike Mutebi will coach football at Rwanda Premier League side Kiyovu Sports Club. But the deal is off, Football256 can confirm.
Mutebi was the front runner for the Kiyovu job but the two parties failed to agree on financial terms with the former KCCA FC coach asking for more than what Kiyovu was willing to offer.
Instead, the job will be going to the just sacked Tiafa Stars coach Etienne Ndayiragije, he did leave his residence in Burundi today after headed for Rwanda where he is expected to finalise with the Kiyovu officials.
Before the Kiyovu development, Mutebi is believed to have a series of offers around the region.
Local champions Vipers Sports Club are chasing his signature on top of Tanzanian outfit Azam and Kenyan record league holders Gor Mahia.
Speculation is also rife of Mutebi being earmarked for the vacant Uganda Cranes job although it is not yet official if FUFA have made contact with his representatives.
Mutebi’s profile rose from grass to grace at KCCA FC in the last five years where he guided the side to three league titles and two Uganda Cups.
He also led KCCA FC to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2017 and Champions League in 2018, on top of winning the CECAFA Kagame Cup in 2019, KCCA FC’s second and first since 1978.
