Uganda FIFA assistant referee Dick Okello will be one of the 12 assistant referees at the Total U20 Africa Nations Cup in Guinea.
The 28 year old match official will be the only Ugandan at the event that has had another assistant referee Mark Sonko represent at the last two editions.
Okello is the second youngest of the assistant referees with 26 year old Loius Ralph Fabien Cauvelet from Ivory being the youngest. Cape Verde’s Luis Fernades Barbosa is the oldest assistant referee at 38.
Among the assistant referees, Okello is the only one from the East African region but together with Ethiopian Samuel Temesgin Atango they are the only two from the CECAFA region.
Uganda won’t be having any center referees at the championship, but the CECAFA region is well represented with Pacifique Ndabihaweimana (Burundi), Peter Waweru (Kenya), Hassan Mohamed Hagi (Somalia), and Jean Claude Ishimwe (Rwanda).
The championship starts on February 2nd -17th in the cities Niamey and Maradi, Niger with the top four teams qualifying for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
ost Niger are debutants at the championship, the others Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa.
Nigeria who will be making a 13th appearance at the championship have won the title a record seven times.
