Disjointed KCCA FC fall to volatile URA

By Clive Kyazze

For the first time in a long time a KCCA FC team looked like a bunch of footballers meeting for the first time and asked to try and  stop a URA FC side that has been together long enough.

The two sides met in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Tuesday at Lugogo as URA triumphed 2-1 courtesy of a Shafik Kagimu brace.

The last time URA played at Lugogo against KCCA FC, the former lost 7-2 but they hadn’t lost again in the league since then.

Much as KCCA FC also won the first round fixture at Namboole 1-0, they were outplayed by the opponents then and it’s URA who dominated play again at Lugogo.

Jackson Nunda playing just in front of the back four, along side Nicholas Kasozi was seen forgetting his defensive duties every time he ventured forward. Tracking back was also a problem.

URA on the other hand played with more purpose, making sure that all the time they had possession they camped in KCCA FC’s half and it yielded dividends eventually in the 24th minute.

Robert Omunuk’s cross wasn’t that hard to deal with, but the KCCA FC back line took it for granted, Shafik Kagimu pounced it on and made no mistake, 0-1 URA lead.

Patrick Kaddu and Mike Mutyaba led the line, but they looked isolated as the midfield of Allan Okello, Jackson Nunda and Nickolas Kasozi lacked creativity.

Julius Poloto on the right was timid, and at some instances Yeseri Waibi pocketed him as KCCA FC searched for leader on the pitch but couldn’t find one.

That was in the first 45 minutes of the game, KCCA FC looked rejuvenated in the second stanza, Morley Byekwaso’s halftime talk was going to yield something after all, many thought.

The hosts’ best chance of the evening since kickoff fell to Mustafa Kizza, in the six yards box and the goal at his mercy he controlled and ballooned the ball over the bar.

In  the 74th minute, substitute Muzamir Mutyaba was fouled in the area, Timothy Awany stepped up and made it count, 1-1.

When KCCA FC thought they would build on that and get back into the game, Gift Ali replaced Kaddu in an effort to dominate possession.

URA piled pressure and eleven minutes to full time Kizza fouled Joachim Ojera in the area, Kagimu completed his brace from 12 yards, URA led again 2-1.

KCCA FC remain on 45 points, three points ahead of second placed Vipers who drew 0-0 against Onduparaka in Arua.
