Wakiso Giants FC have earned a double nomination for the Pilsner StarTimes Uganda Premier League monthly awards for November.
Head coach John Luyinda Ayala and midfielder Ibrahim Owen Kasule ‘Baba’ were shortlisted in the coach and player of the month categories respectively.
Luyinda and Kasule earned their nominations on merit given that Wakiso has been in splendid form last month.
The Purple Sharks who are currently second on the 15-team SUPL log with 21 points, spent almost the entire November top of the standings.
Luyinda’s charges played five games in November and won four while they drew once. They defeated URA FC, SC Villa, Gaddafi Modern FC, and Express FC and drew with Onduparaka FC.
During that five-game unbeaten run, Kasule scored two goals in the 2-1 and 3-2 wins over Villa and Express respectively, and also managed as many assists.
In the player of the month category, Soltilo Bright Stars FC’s Nelson Ssenkatuka and Gaddafi’s Alex Kitata are the other two nominated players.
Whereas in the coach of the month category, KCCA FC’s Morley Byekwaso and Vipers SC’s Roberto Oliveira were also shortlisted.
Ssenkatuka and Kitata who were both excellent in November are the league’s joint leading goal scorers so far with six goals alongside Vipers’ Yunus Sentamu.
Ssenkatuka scored three of his six goals in November during the 2-1 and 2-0 victories over Onduparaka and Express, he bagged a brace against the latter.
Five of Kitata’s six goals came in November when he bagged a hat trick in Gaddafi’s 3-0 victory over Bright Stars.
He was also on target once during his side’s 2-0 win over Arua Hill SC before he also scored in a 2-1 defeat to KCCA.
Meanwhile, Byekwaso has lifted KCCA to the top spot in the SUPL on 22 points with a five-game unbeaten run in November proving instrumental.
The Kasasiro Boys won four of the five games they played last month against Blacks Power FC, UPDF FC, Villa, and Gaddafi while they drew with URA.
On the other hand, Oliveira’s Vipers were the most in-form side winning all five games against Maroons FC, Blacks Power, UPDF, URA, and Villa.
