Edrisa ‘Torres’ Lubega’s free kick was the difference as his side Proline FC picked up their first victory of the 2019/2020 Star Times Uganda Premier league season.
The burly and pacey center forward who was making his season debut after his loan move back to the club from Austrian side SV Reid.
Lubega could only make the bench, but made an instant impact for Proline after his introduction for fellow new signing Alfred Leku in the second half.
His pace, power and technique caused problems for Onduparaka’s defence throughout, and his contribution was recognised with the man of match accolade.
Lubega had earlier threatened and was agonisingly denied by the cross bar. However, he acknowledges that the miss just spurred him on and he had no doubt as he stepped up to take the free kick.
“It was my first touch. As the ball arrived, I thought of controlling before shooting but I realised I was in the box and I knew I didn’t have that much time, so I decided to go for the spectacular unluckily, I missed,” Lubega told www.football-256.com
“So when the set piece opportunity came, I was confident that this time I could hit the back of the net because I had more time to take a more accurate shot,” He added.
Despite getting off to such high standards, Lubega says he prefers not to set any personal targets as he takes every game as it comes.
“Even though it matters, but am not setting any targets. I prefer to take each game as it comes. I have a clue of what I want to achieve during the course of the season, but at the moment I can’t reveal anything.” He asserted.
