The 2019/20 Egyptian Premier League season kicked off over the weekend with a number of Ugandan players in action on Saturday and Sunday, with more to play on Monday evening.
Midfield maestro Khalid Aucho got off to a flying start on his debut for Misr El Maqasah against Aswan CS at the Aswan stadium, Aswan.
Aucho who played the entire 90 put his side in the lead on 30th minutes. However, his goal was not enough, as the home side scored in quick succession through Naim Mahmoud in the 33rd minute, and Zaher Ahmed in the 37th minute.
But El Maqasah forward Marei Amr stepped to the fore to grab the equalizer in the 64th minute, before grabbing a late winner winner in the 82nd minute.
Aucho and El Maqasah return into action on Thursday 3rd, October with a home game against Micho Sredejovic’s Zamalek FC.
In Cairo, Former Vipers captain Taddeo Lwanga starred for his new side Tanta FC who played against Cairo based side Wadi Degla at the Petro Sport stadium.
Taddeo’s thunderous late free kick was spilled by Wadi goalkeeper Abdel Monsef into the path of another debutant Fouad Islam to slot home in the 88th minute.
Elsewhere, Uganda Cranes winger Abdul Lumala did not make the match day squad as his Pyramids FC side defeated ENPPI 4-0 at home.
It is a result that relaxes tension around former Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre who seems to have been living on borrowed time after poor results in the Egyptian cup and the CAF Confederations cup.
It was a rather difficult start for Allan Kyambadde as his side El Ghouna fell to a 1-0 loss at home to Ismaily SC.
Tomorrow, Cranes striker Emmanuel Okwi is in line of making his debut at Al Ittihad who travel to Cairo to play against former Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic at the Cairo international stadium.
