The Uganda national women’s football team the Crested Cranes were knocked out of the CAF Africa Qualifiers Women’s Tournament Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 by Ethiopian side.
Loza Abera’s lone strike in the second was enough for Ethiopia to see off the Ugandan side at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Saturday.
Crested Cranes entered the game looking for a 1-0 win to qualify after a 3-2 loss to Ethiopia in the first leg but they were unable to achieve the feat.
The Crested Cranes came closer in the 12th minute but Resty Nanziri’s ballooned her effort with the Ethiopia goal at her mercy.
Hassifah Nassuna missed another in the 35th minute, her free kick went just few inches over the bar.
Three minutes later, Crested Cranes custodian Ruth Aturo was forced into a superb save after Asfaw Emebet Adisu’s teasing shot.
Fazira Ikwaput almost scored for Crested Cranes with the Ethiopian goalkeeper to beat in the 45th minute but she was denied by wood work.
Lilian Mutuuzo, Riticia Nabbosa and Sandra Nabweteme were brought on in the second half, they increased life and pressure in the game.
Crested Cranes advancing dreams were thrown to the gutters by Loza Abera in the 68th, she took advantage of a defensive mixup before slotting past the advancing Aturo.
Ethiopia qualified to the next stage with an aggregate of 4-2, they will face the Indomitable lionesses of Cameroon
