Etienne Eto’o Pineda has put the teams taking part in the ongoing U20 AFCON on notice as he says their victory against Mozambique gives a message to everyone that they are here to win the competition.
A brace for Etienne Eto’o and one goal each for Kevin-Prince Milla and Abdoulaye Yahaya ensured that the U-20 Lions finished the group stage on a perfect three wins from three games played.
“I feel proud of the team. As I said before, I think finishing the first step of the competition with nine points in three matches is important,” Etienne Eto’o told media after the game.
“It gives a message to everyone that we are here to win and go as far as we can. We have to continue working for the team and continue like that,” he added.
Etienne Pineda opened the scoring for the Junior Lions in the seventh minute through a beautifully curled free-kick. He then made it 2-0 at the stroke of half time through a beautifully taken penalty kick.
Few minutes into the second half Kevin-Prince Milla added a third goal for Cameroon in the 47th minute.
Abdoulaye Yahaya then ensured that all three points went to Cameroon, scoring the fourth goal with three minutes to go. Gianluca Antonio Remo had pulled a goal back for Mozambique.
This was the first game for Etienne Eto’o in the competition which saw him pick up the man of the match
The excellent showing from Etienne Eto’o will give coach Ousmanou Christophe something to think about when he selects his squad for the quarter-finals.
