Following a comprehensive victory over Busoga United on Tuesday, Express went top of the Uganda Premier League table with title rivals URA and Vipers losing their respective fixtures.

The 2012 UPL champions lead proceedings on 55 points one point above the URA, who are second on 54 and two points above Vipers, who are on 53 in third place.

And with five games to go until the end of the season, the Red Eagles will be hoping to extend their stay at the top with victory over bottom side Kitara at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Friday.

Kitara could be relegation-bound, but Express head coach Wasswa Bbosa is not taking the game against the Hoima based side lightly.

“After picking up a victory away to Busoga, we are glad to be back home against Kitara, but it will not be an easy game,” Bbosa said ahead of the game.

“Kitara tends to be a strong side when playing Express, they eliminated us from the Uganda Cup twice, and even the first leg this season was not easy. We won it just 1-0.”

“Yes, we are fighting hard as title contenders, but they are also trying all they can to survive. The game may seem easy on paper, just like the other fixtures we have left, but we are not taking any of them lightly including Kitara,” Bbosa added.

Heading into Friday’s game, Kitara won 3-1 at home against fellow strugglers MYDA FC on Tuesday, and they will be hoping to carry the same winning mentality when they face in-form side Express.

Anthony Ssekitto’s charges have scored in each of their last seven games and will rely on the likes of Nathan Oloro, Edison Agondeze, Patrick Kusemererwa and Isaac Tumusiime for goals on Friday.

Godfrey Lwesibawa, who bagged a hat-trick against Busoga and in-form Eric Kambale should inspire the Wankulukuku based side, who are on a six-game winning streak.

Express won 1-0 in the reverse fixture courtesy of Frank Kalanda’s 75th-minute penalty.
