Strikers are as good as their last match they say. But even though a ball hasn’t been kicked in the league, the targets are being set like is the case for striker Mustafa Kiragga who joined Express FC on Saturday.

The 19-year-old who previously featured for South African outfit Alexandria FC penned a two-year deal with the Red Eagles and has set his sights on reaching double figures when the season kicks off.

“As strikers we know we’re judged by the number of goals scored and having joined a big team like Express FC,” Kiragga told the club via YouTube.

“It’s written on the wall that I must score goals and in this case I hope to hit double figures across all competitions,” the striker added.

The competition for the number nine role will take centre stage as the club’s top scorer last season Frank Kalanda who managed 11 goals from the 30 goals the club scored last season battles with Kiragga.

The latter has played in the Ugandan top flight before having turned out for the now defunct Sports Club Victoria University and Lweza FC.

Although he didn’t nail down a starting berth then, he will have the opportunity to turn his fortunes around under Wasswa Bossa.

The Red Eagles who last won the league title in 2012 are seeking to claim a seventh league title or at worst a top-three finish which was last achieved in the 2015/16 season.
