Every sportsman in the world usually has a following on social media in this modern era, but what happens when your fans actually prefer your competitor?
Such is the dilemma South Africa and Kaizer Chiefs number one goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has found himself in recently.
This follows the recent CAF awards where the Mamelodi Sundowns shot stopper was named on the CAF team of the year, Onyango was also the only African based player on the list.
The 31 year old is embroiled in an online spat with several social media followers after he responded to a tweet which indicated Uganda’s Denis Onyango is the best goalkeeper in Africa.

Mzanzi’s number one responded by posting a picture of himself in front of different awards with the caption “Just a reminder.”
Onyango have won 5 PSL League tittles with Caf Champions League Trophy, took his Country Uganda to Afcon twice while he's still their Captain and now he was voted as the best Goalkeeper in Africa,we can't argue more on this !!!

Yet before that, Khune was one of the few players in the PSL to congratulate Onyango when the award had just ended on Tuesday night.
What are these? @OfficialPSL Man of the match awards??? They're certainly NOT @CAF_Online Best Player awards! Are they?

He posted: “Congratulations bro @masindeonyango keep up the good work .the best in the business ?? #Respect ? GodIsGreat ??.”

A reaction that wasn’t received well by his followers, many of them posted memes of Khune’s facial reactions after conceding in several games, others posted Gifs that showed it was a joke for him to be better than Onyango.
This is unnecessary ????. See what Onyango is doing to our madala

The debate of who between Khune and Onyango is better has been ongoing ever since the former led his club to a CAF Champions League title in 2016.

He went on to be named the African Best Player based in Africa and the PSL goalkeeper of the season.
@IIKHUNE_32_16 Soweto’s finest vs @masindeonyango Africa’s finest! Doesn’t need a brain surgeon to figure that out! Pompous, self-important and imperious personality vs humble and unpresuming personality! One wins MOM awards in @OfficialPSL and other wins at continental level!

In comparison, Khune has won more individual awards compared to Onyango although, the Uganda Cranes captain has won a record five league titles two better than Khune.
Imagine Shabba celebrating the goal of the season in the PSL, meanwhile a more deserving goal by Masunuke (Baroka GK) is a contender for the Puskes awards. So you can display those biased awards all you want, we don’t recognize them. We will not celebrate mediocrity

Khune’s standout season was 2012/2013, the last time Chiefs won the league, he went on to be named the PSL Footballer of the year a feat no goalkeeper has ever achieved. It remains to be seen how the battle on Twitter will end.
