Gaddafi Football Club sealed their maiden promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after a 2-0 victory against Proline FC at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
Steven Munguchi and Frank Mulimi’s goals were the difference as the two sides fought to complete the trio that joins UPL.
It only took three minutes for Gaddafi to take an early lead through Munguchi’s header.
Nine minutes later, Proline had a glorious chance to level matters after Gaddafi failed to clear Noordin Bunjo’s powerful corner kick but goalkeeper Paul Mujjampwani did well to keep his side’s lead intact.
Both sides displayed total football with purpose and confidence. Gaddafi continued to stage attacks but, were not clinical enough to convert the chances.
On the return of the second half, Proline coach Anthony Bongole made his first change introducing Joshua Okitor for captain Bunjo.
The Soldier Boys wasted a glorious chance to extend the lead as Bithum Ronald failed to convert from close range.
At the hour mark, Proline further made a double change that saw Brian Sebadduka and Brian Umony come on for Diego Hamis and Rodgers Mato respectively.
A few minutes later, Gadaffi coach Hassan Zungu introduced Ronald Obele and Frank Mulimi for Mark Bamukyaye and James Otim.
For the large part of the second half, Gaddafi preferred safety than extending the lead as they left the ball with the Lugogo based side to command possession.
Six minutes to the end of the game Mulimi sealed Gaddafi’s promotion with an emphatic finish after dribling past goalkeeper Nicolas Sebwato to place the ball in an empty net.
Gaddafi joined Arua Hill SC and Tooro United FC that earned direct spots into the Startimes Uganda Premier League 2021/22 season.
